Upstate New York Summer Road Trip

Mike and I have been able to go on quite a few road trips together since we have been married. I think every time we go we say we had more fun than the last. This past weekend we went to Palmyra, Niagara Falls, and Ithaca. Here are our pics.

Palmyra Temple.

Mike's dad's Aunt and Uncle, Lavern and Linda Brim, are serving as missionaries in the Palmyra Temple. Aunt Linda surprised us in the temple our first morning there. She had originally told us that they weren't planning on doing a session with us.
My favorite part of the Grandin Book Store (where the first Book of Mormon was printed). They say that this ink is really from the time the book was being printed.
At the LDS bookstore in Palmyra...Having famous friends is fun! The book in the middle First Day was written by my friend Ally Condie.
And here is Jake Werrett's book.
On the Smith Farm.

The Sacred Grove...last time I went we weren't allowed to take any pictures but this time we were told we could.
This is a sign at the Pageant. Mike loved it so I put it on here for him.

Us with Linda and Lavern and some new Brims we met, Grandma Barnes cousin Jim and his wife Helen.
You weren't supposed to use flash at the Pageant but Mike thought it was off. Here's a pic that he accidentally took.
We camped out with the Baileys on Thursday night. Here's our teeny tent that we slept in.
We asked some local Palmyra peeps where we should eat breakfast and this is what they recommend...the Yellow Mills Diner. It was sooo fabulous. Sorry the pic is blurry its all we got.

Hill Cumorah with the Baileys.

On Friday morning we drove up to Niagara Falls. Mike loves Indian people so he really wanted to take this picture.

My first time EVER out of the country at age 23. Woo Hoo!
My Jedi pose before getting on the Maid of the Mist.
Mike's Jedi pose.
The boat takes you so close to the falls.
We were getting soaked! Well as soon as I took my pancho off I was dry but Mike wasn't because he wasn't wearing his hood.
At the top of The Falls.

After Niagara we were on our way to Ithaca and decided to stop at the Whitmer Farm in Fayette. It was pouring SO HARD we when got there.

And on the the final destination of the trip....ITHACA! I haven't been back since I left in May of 05 so I was very excited.
Our first and perhaps most important destination was the most beloved grocery store there ever was...Wegmans. I have hyped up so many things to Mike in the past and most do not live up to there expectations but this one did not disappoint. Mike even asked if we should go back a second time. This picture is dedicated to my friends of the Cornell Branch :)
Reason #1 I gained the freshman 25 (yes, I said 25).
The Hill Center...where I spent a vast majority of my time in Ithaca.
It was home to this place...the pool was not open but I found a way to sneak in and take a few pics.
117 Lyon Hall!

Us at Taughannock Falls.

Buttermilk Falls.
The view of Lake Cayuga from Ithaca College. Saturday night we camped out at Treman Park. In the rain, thunder, lightening, and all! I guess I was really tired because I didn't hear much.
Reason #2 I gain the freshman 25....D.P. Dough. Yea, they deliver until 3am...even in winter (it just takes longer then).

On Sunday we went to the family ward because they met at 9am and I think there is only 1 or 2 people left in the Branch that I would know. I was looking all over for my old Branch President and figured he would have been released by now but I didn't see him until after church in the hallway. He remembered me! Go President Hay! I was very excited to see him.

After Church at the clock tower on the Cornell campus.
BARNES HALL!

On the way home from Ithaca we decided to be spotaneous and drive down to Harmony, PA so see where the Priesthood was restored and where Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry were baptized. The site is not very developed but it was still neat to see. This is the Susquahannah where the events took place.

This was an awesome trip! Mike loved Palmyra and wants to live there (although I reminded him repeatedly how lovely the winters can be). Everyone there was so friendly. It was great to talk to people on the tours and in the Pageant. We were all there for the same purpose and it was a good feeling. I loved being back in Ithaca. I did get a little bit sad because of the way I hated it so much when I was there. It really is a beautiful place! I was just going through a lot at the time...and the whole 6 months without sunlight was a little rough. So Ithaca, I'm sorry, and I love you. And sorry to anyone that I complained to when I was there ;) Just like Pullman, I was happy to see that Ithaca hadn't changed (except for the additon of an Urban Outfitters, that would have been nice to have when I was there). It was still Ithaca, hippies and all. I guess I'm just finally realizing that I am growing up. It may be a little lame to say but it was so true.

Wow! You guys packed a lot in this weekend. It looks like you had a lot of fun. What a great trip. I am jealous because when we went to all of those places in March about 3 years ago everywhere was covered in snow...but we still had a great time.
